No Halloween is complete without Halloween Popcorn Balls. This recipe gives the old recipe a tangy pick-me-up.
Ingredients
-
5 quarts of popped popcorn
-
1 package of (4 serving size) orange Jello
-
1 cup light Karo syrup
-
1 cup sugar
-
popsicle sticks
-
baggies or plastic wrap
-
green wrapping paper ribbon
Preparations
-
Combine Jello, Karo syrup and sugar in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil.
-
Heat until the sugar and Jello have dissolved completely.
Be prepared for the following steps.
The syrup mixture is very hot to handle and could burn easily. I grease up my hands with lots of margarine before handling the popcorn.
-
Grease hands generously with margarine.
-
Very quickly, form the popcorn into balls.
-
Push a popsicle stick into each ball.
-
Set completed balls into a baggie or in saran wrap
-
Tie a green ribbon around the plastic wrap and the popsicle stick (for a decorative touch and to seal in freshness).
If you want to get real fancy, set down the popcorn balls with the stick up in the air. Cut three small triangles from black construction paper. Glue on two triangles closest to the stick as eyes and the third one a little lower and in between as a nose. You now have popcorn balls that look like miniature pumpkins.
